God's mercy is new every morning

I had a great weekend! I returned from a terrific urban youth workers conference very tired but also refreshed and connected again to the church. I feel recharged to once again hit the streets and minister to the needs of the so very needy in my neighborhood. My heart even feels a little love for the youth and I haven't felt anything for a while. This last year of hubbie's schooling has taken a toll on me and I don't think I'd realized how much of a toll. I remembered what it is like to be around adults and to not have to plan your day around kids eating and sleeping schedules. I was able to be challenged mentally by great speakers, and I was led to the Father in worship, and I spent time with our youth team laughing and praying. All of this was possible because hubbie spent three days at home schooling, taxing, and feeding our three kids. What a gift it was to me! (He is getting a 5 day backpacking trip with the boys in July to celebrate his graduation so don't start thinking that he is a martyr at all.) It is nice to feel whole again. Don't know how long it will last because I still have a husband locked in his room working on his thesis and kids who are biting each other's heads off today. BUT I did have a great time on Friday with the youth group and I haven't been able to say that in months. I think the best thing about the conference is that I remembered how much I love youth ministry. Thank you God for keeping me here in the desert so that I can have a group of kids to love on. You know the desires of my heart better than I do!

A three-day break sounds refreshing. Sometimes, that's all you need. Perspective with a side of iced tea.

Way to go, hubby.

What a beautiful post. My husband and I did youth ministry when he was in seminary...it's exhausting and draining and wonderful all mixed together. So glad you got some time away to be refreshed...we all need that!

PS - I'm a midwest girl too...still living in IA. Every January I want to move to California until spring :)
